WIFC XVII

It is with tremendous disappointment that we share the FIPSed announcement that the 2020 World Ice Fishing Championship cannot take place in Lithuania due to poor weather conditions.

Tryouts will be cancelled this year, as the 2020 team will move on to compete next year.

In very EXCITING NEWS, the USA has won the bid to host the World Ice Fishing Championship in 2024! This will be an excellent opportunity for spectators to come see how the competition operates and observe anglers from each participating country, as they fish for a gold medal in the United States. Details to come.

We are so excited for next year and years to come as the sport of competitive ice fishing continues to grow and flourish. A huge thanks to all of our sponsors and the country of Lithuania for all of your efforts. We know how much goes into organizing an event of this caliber and the disappointment due to weather is heartbreaking, to say the least.

We look forward to seeing you all on international ice next year and continuing the camaraderie that the sport of ice fishing has allowed.

To our friends and supporters in the USA, let’s go fishing! We encourage all ice anglers to contact Team USA members and get together with us on the ice this year. Sharing gear, tips and experiences is what it’s all about.

UPDATE: A last minute effort was launched to move the event to Finland.  Unfortunately changing tickets and other reservations were not able to be completed in time for the USA team to be able to participate.
