In 2009, the United States won its bid to the International Freshwater Fishing Federation (FIPSed) to become the host country for the 7th WIFC, which took place in Rhinelander, WI, on 12-14 March 2010.

The USA Ice Team beat ten other countries to win its first ever World Championship in 2010, finishing with three anglers in the top six individually. Mike Boedeker took the individual gold, beating out close to sixty world-class ice anglers.
